Baker<\/a> is an Assistant Professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/minghsiehece.usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science<\/a> in both the <a href=\"https:\/\/viterbischool.usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viterbi School of Engineering<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/computing.usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Advanced Computing<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Southern California (USC)<\/a>. Baker is a former Application and Framework Engineer in Health and Research Products at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple Inc<\/a> where he worked on medical and research frameworks such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchandcare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CareKit and ResearchKit<\/a>. Prior to joining USC, Baker was an Assistant Professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engr.uky.edu\/research-faculty\/departments\/computer-science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Computer Science<\/a>\u00a0at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uky.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Kentucky (UK)<\/a>. He directs the Network Reconnaissance (NetRecon) Lab, where his research investigates full-stack systems for distributing, protecting, and authenticating data in opportunistic networking scenarios for rural remote patient monitoring, smart cities, and natural disasters to improve people\u2019s livelihood. He evaluates real-world applications of opportunistic delay tolerant networks (DTNs), software-defined networks (SDNs), and human-centered design to empower device-to-device (D2D) social networks for crowd-sourcing information. Leveraging opportunistic communication provides complementary solutions to traditional networks typically dependent upon centralized infrastructures such as the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Baker\u00a0received a B.S. degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sjsu.edu\/cmpe\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/cmpe.sjsu.edu\">Computer Engineering<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/sjsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/sjsu.edu\">San Jose State University (SJSU)<\/a>, an M.S. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calstatela.edu\/ecst\/ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.calstatela.edu\/ecst\/ece\">Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calstatela.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.calstatela.edu\">California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA)<\/a>, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ece.ufl.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.ece.ufl.edu\">Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufl.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.ufl.edu\">University of Florida (UF)<\/a> under the supervision of Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/wam.ece.ufl.edu\/mcnair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Janise McNair<\/a>.\u00a0After completion of his graduate studies, Baker was a <a href=\"https:\/\/ppfp.ucop.edu\/info\/about-ppfp\/partnerships.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of California Presidents Postdoctoral Fellow<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/qi.ucsd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qualcomm Institute<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of California San Diego<\/a> under the mentorship of <a href=\"https:\/\/tjavidi.eng.ucsd.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tara Javidi<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/qi.ucsd.edu\/about\/leadership\/ramesh-rao\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ramesh Rao<\/a>. Baker was later a Visiting Scholar in the Electrical & Computer Engineering department at the University of Southern California under the mentorship of <a href=\"http:\/\/ceng.usc.edu\/~bkrishna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bhaskar Krishnamachari<\/a>. Baker.
